Groups at Root Cause Farm
We host a variety of groups at Root Cause Farm for service learning projects and general garden help. We are available to host groups on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9-12. Our day begins with a quick orientation about the farm and why we do what we do. Your group will be led by the farm manager through various gardening tasks. Let us know if there is a specific task your group is interested in doing or learning about. We’re so glad to have you!
If you are interested in having your group at RCF, please send an email to info@rootcausefarm.org with the desired date, time, number of participants and their age range. Thank you!
Helpful Information for Groups:
Location: 26 Joe Jenkins Road Fairview, NC 28730. Once you turn onto Joe Jenkins Road, you will soon see a kiosk and scarecrow pointing you to turn left. Drive through the pasture, and you will see the garden.
Parking: Drive all the way up and park by the garden crew vehicles near the playground. Buses and large vehicles should stop at the garden and ask where to park.
Attire: Please wear comfortable work clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and boots or sturdy close toed shoes. Bring a hat or sunscreen if you are sensitive to the sun and work gloves if you prefer to work in them.
What to bring: Please bring your own bottle or jug of water. We have well water on site for refills. Also, bring bug spray if you are sensitive to mosquitoes.
Other things to note: A clean Port-o-John is available for volunteers to use. Also, should heavy rain, snow, thunder or lightening be called for, we may contact you to postpone or reschedule your volunteer visit. Though we strive to work rain or shine, sometimes Mother Nature gets the best of us. Safety first!
ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST COMPLETE A WAIVER BEFORE WORKING IN THE GARDEN.
PLEASE READ AND SIGN THE WAIVER BELOW.
Root Cause Farm Waiver of Liability
We hope your gardening experience is safe and rewarding, but accidents can happen. The following waiver must be signed by all staff, interns, volunteers and guests to protect Root Cause Farm from liability.
Waiver: In consideration of being permitted to participate in any way in Root Cause Farm I, for myself, my heirs, personal representatives or assigns, do hereby release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue Root Cause Farm, or its employees and board, volunteers and agents from liability from any and all claims resulting in personal injury, accidents or illnesses (including death), and property loss arising from, but not limited to, participation in the garden.
Indemnification and Hold Harmless: I also agree to indemnify and hold Root Cause Farm and its employees, board, volunteers and agents harmless from any and all claims, actions, suits, procedures, costs, expenses, damages and liabilities, including attorney’s fees brought as a result of my involvement at Root Cause Farm and to reimburse them for any such expenses incurred.
Severability: The undersigned further expressly agrees that the foregoing waiver and assumption of risks agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by the law of the State of North Carolina that if any portion thereof is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect.
Photo Release: I authorize Root Cause Farm to use my or my child’s photo in any manner Root Cause Farm desires, for advertising, display, audio-visual, exhibition or editorial use.
COVID-19 Policy: By signing the waiver and registering to volunteer you are stipulating that you:
Agree to hold RCF harmless in the event of illness or injury
Are not currently experiencing nor have experienced symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 5 days
Acknowledgment of Understanding: I have read this waiver of liability, fully understand its terms, and understand that I am giving up substantial rights, including my right to sue. I acknowledge that I am signing the agreement freely and voluntarily, and intend by my signature to be a complete and unconditional release of all liability to the greatest extent allowed by law.
“I’m feeling tired, grateful, happy, accomplished. What a great example of people working together to help others. It was really cool to meet everyone at the market and class- it made it more meaningful. This experience fed the soul.”
